Here are some handy FAQS that may help you

Are there evacuation chairs and stair climbers where I can remain in my wheelchair?

Yes, customers can choose from 5 models. A team member can talk through the most suitable model.

Do Evacuation chairs and stair climbers come under LOLER or PUWER?

The stair climbers and evacuation chairs are not actually lifting.  LOLER would not apply although PUWER could apply. They require an annual service/ inspection.

What types of stairs do your stair climbers work on?

Straight spiral or flared stairs and the appropriate model will also depend on the dimensions of stairs and landings. Different floor surfaces.

Is there any reason that historic or listed buildings don’t have to provide access?

As all of the stair climbers that EHS supply are portable, they are not fixed to the fabric of the building, and can therefore be used in these buildings. Also, the stairs and landings will dictate the model of chair that can be used.

I need to be able to get people with reduced mobility upstairs in an emergency are there stair climber / evacuation chairs that are suitable?

EHS wouldn’t recommend carrying people up or downstairs due to the risk of slips, trips and falls for both the operator and the occupant. How many people would it take to carry a person in an evacuation chair upstairs? Too many!
Safety is key and consequently powered units are the safest as the machine is taking the strain. We have many models available and can talk through your options.

We are a Facilities Mangement Company and need to provide an excellent service to our clients. What can you offer us?

EHS  provides solutions for evacuation access and lift breakdowns. We have the largest range of products and are experts in our field. We can resolve issues that others can’t. We can train you on all makes and models of evacuation chairs and service those units. Furthermore we also have a range of products to move goods up and down stairs or around sites.

What is the Flex Step?

This is a fantastic product that provides access and egress with stairs that change to a platform lift for wheelchair users. You can keep the stairs and not have to install very long ramps that may be unsightly.

Which areas do you cover?

As a Company EHS covers the UK and Ireland, however,  some products can be supplied outside of this area.  Please contact us.

Our lift has broken down, can you help us?

Of course, EHS has a variety of stair climbers that can cover you until your lift is repaired so that you can still offer access and egress. The question is that ‘if you require a stair climber / evacuation chair because your lift is broken the have you got a robust and tested evacuation plan?’
